Experiencing, Living in the Now, in the Moment

Three to four times a week I take a walk for about 35 minutes, after my walk I practice a few Yoga postures and stretching exercises.  On a Friday, after my walk, I went to my room, removed my parka, and went to the kitchen to prepare lunch for the owner of the home where I live. Maria is always rushing out to go to work and never has time to prepare lunch, since I am retired, I have plenty of time, and so, I volunteered to do it for her.   After I made Maria’s lunch, I went to my room to get my eyeglasses and prepare for the day, I wanted to leave early so that I could play nine holes of golf at 9:30 a.m. and the time was 8:30 a.m.  The problem was I could not find my glasses.  Interesting thing happened I found myself in an unusually calm state; normally, I would be a little excited and start complaining. However, this morning a different, ‘I’ in me was in command, and I found myself in a very calm state of being.

I thought where in the world are my eyeglasses.  I began to look all over the house, back tracking everywhere I been. I could not find my eyeglasses in the house, so then I thought maybe my eyeglasses fell out of my pocket during my walk? I back tracked the path I took that morning and went for another 35-minute walk. I saw a couple of people walking and I asked them if they had seen a pair of glasses lying about, and they said no.  I then asked the crossing guard and she said no, but suggested I go to the nearby elementary school and ask, which I did.  The woman in the office told me that no one found or returned any lost glasses that morning.

Interesting thing, I was enjoying myself. The sun was out and warm, I was meeting new people, and I was enjoying how I was being.  I was living in the now, in the moment.  Everything I was doing was being in the moment.  There was no complaint, no worry, just a wondrous and adventurous state of being.  However, I still could not find my eyeglasses: I looked and looked, but no eyeglasses. I began to think that I will have to buy a new pair of eyeglasses and began planning for that, again, no complaint just solving a problem. However, I did realize that I have a limited income and it is not so easy to spend an extra $200 to $400 on new pair of glasses. However, the thought was how to solve this problem.

I got home and remembered there was an area that I hadn’t searched which was in the back yard, I thought, maybe the glasses fell out of my pocket as I bent over to move a potted plant: Well, no eyeglasses, and no time to go play golf.  I decided to read the paper and have a few pieces of fruit.  I put my fruit on a plate, walked to my room, took out a magnifying glass so I could read the paper, and went out to my favorite spot in the back yard where the sun shines directly on the sofa. As I was walking to go to the back yard, I remembered that I wanted to use my lap-desk, which I love to use while reading.  I walked back to my room and bent down to pick up the lap-desk, which was on the floor wedged between my desk and bed frame, and behold I saw something briefly and heard it fall as I begun to pick up my lap-desk.  Could it be my glasses?  I stooped down, got on my knees and looked under the bed to see what fell, and behold, my glasses.  What joy, what joy, and then I remembered my state of being in the now, and in the moment, I was so grateful for its adventure and travel, and of course, I was grateful that I found my eyeglasses.
